ܘܚܘܝܘ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܗܐ ܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܡܬܟܬܫܝܢ ܒܩܥܝܠܐ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܒܙܝܢ ܐܕܪ̈ܐ
'dr' bzyn whnwn bqeyl' mthkthshyn plshthy' h' lh w'mrw ldwyd wkhwyw
David was told, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing floors.”

ܘܫܐܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܙܠ ܐܚܪܘܒ ܠܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܙܠ ܚܪܘܒ ܠܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܘܦܪܘܩ ܠܩܥܝܠܐ
lqeyl' wprwq lplshthy' khrwb zl mry' lh w'mr hlyn lplshthy' 'khrwb 'zl w'mr bmry' dwyd wsh'l
Therefore David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go and strike these Philistines?” Yahweh said to David, “Go strike the Philistines, and save Keilah.”

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܐ̈ܢܫܘܗܝ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܡܢ ܡܚܪ ܚܢܢ ܗܪܟܐ ܚܢܢ ܕܚܠܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܢܐܙܠ ܠܩܥܝܠܐ ܠܣܕܪܐ ܕܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ

David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”

ܘܐܘܣܦ ܬܘܒ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܡܫܐܠ ܒܐܠܗܐ ܘܥܢܝܗܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܩܘܡ ܚܘܬ ܠܩܥܝܠܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܢܐ ܡܫܠܡ ܐܢܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ
b'ydyk lplshthy' lhwn 'n' mshlm d'n' mTl lqeyl' khwth qwm lh w'mr mry' wenyhy b'lh' lmsh'l dwyd thwb w'wsp
Then David inquired of Yahweh yet again. Yahweh answered him, and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”

ܘܐܙܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܠܩܥܝܠܐ ܘܐܬܟܬܫ ܥܡ ܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܘܕܒܪܘ ܒܥܝܪܗܘܢ ܘܡܚܐ ܒܗܘܢ ܡܚܘܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܘܦܪܩ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܥܡܘܪ̈ܝܗ ܕܩܥܝܠܐ
dqeyl' lemwryh dwyd wprq rbth' mkhwth' bhwn wmkh' beyrhwn wdbrw plshthy' em w'thkthsh lqeyl' wgbrwhy dwyd w'zl
David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

ܘܟܕ ܥܪܩ ܐܒܝܬܪ ܒܪ ܐܚܝܡܠܟ ܠܘܬ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܩܥܝܠܐ ܦܕܬܐ ܢܚܬܬ ܒܐܝܕܗ

When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, he came down with an ephod in his hand.

ܘܚܘܝܘ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܕܥܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܩܥܝܠܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܐܫܠܡܗ ܐܠܗܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܬܬܚܕ ܕܥܠ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܕܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܘܕܣܘܟܪ̈ܐ
wdswkr' dthre' lqryth' del d'ththkhd mTl b'ydy 'lh' 'shlmh sh'wl w'mr lqeyl' dwyd del lsh'wl wkhwyw
Saul was told that David had come to Keilah. Saul said, “God has delivered him into my hand, for he is shut in by entering into a town that has gates and bars.”

ܘܐܫܡܥ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܠܩܪܒܐ ܠܡܚܬ ܠܩܥܝܠܐ ܠܡܚܒܫ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܠܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܡܗ

Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.

ܘܝܕܥ ܕܘܝܕ ܕܚܫܠ ܫܐܘܠ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐܒܝܬܪ ܟܗܢܐ ܩܪܒ ܠܝ ܦܕܬܐ
pdth' ly qrb khn' l'bythr w'mr byshth' elwhy sh'wl dkhshl dwyd wyde
David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him. He said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܫܡܥ ܫܡܥ ܥܒܕܟ ܕܒܥ̇ܐ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܡܐܬܐ ܠܩܥܝܠܐ ܠܡܚܒܠܘ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܡܛܠܬܝ
mTlthy lqryth' lmkhblw lqeyl' lm'th' sh'wl dbe' ebdk shme mshme d'ysryl 'lh' mry' dwyd w'mr
Then David said, “O Yahweh, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake.

ܡܫܠܡܝܢ ܠܝ ܡܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܕܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܠܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܡܝ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܕܫܐܘܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܫܠܡܝܢ ܠܟ ܩܘܡ ܦܘܩ ܡܢ ܩܪܝܬܐ
qryth' mn pwq qwm lk mshlmyn mry' w'mr dsh'wl b'ydh demy wlgbr' dqryth' mryh ly mshlmyn
Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?” Yahweh said, “They will deliver you up.”

ܘܩܡ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܐܝܟ ܫܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܢܦܩܘ ܡܢ ܩܥܝܠܐ ܘܗܦܟܘ ܘܚܘܝܘ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܕܥܪܩ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܢ ܩܥܝܠܐ ܘܦܫ ܠܗ ܡܢ ܕܠܡܦܩ

Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah and went wherever they could go. Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah; and he gave up going there.

ܘܝܬܒ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܡܨܪܘܬ ܘܝܬܒ ܒܛܘܪܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܙܝܦ ܘܒܥܝܗܝ ܫܐܘܠ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܫܠܡܗ ܐܠܗܐ ܒܐܝܕܗ
b'ydh 'lh' 'shlmh wl' ywmth' klhwn sh'wl wbeyhy dzyp bmdbr' bTwr' wythb dmtsrwth bmdbr' dwyd wythb
David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn’t deliver him into his hand.

ܘܚܙܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܕܢܦܩ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܡܒܥܐ ܢܦܫܗ ܘܕܘܝܕ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܙܝܦ ܒܥܒܐ

David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the woods.

ܘܩܡ ܝܘܢܬܢ ܒܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܐܙܠ ܠܘܬ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܥܒܐ ܘܚܡܣܢ ܐ̈ܝܕܘܗܝ ܒܐܠܗܐ
b'lh' 'ydwhy wkhmsn leb' dwyd lwth w'zl sh'wl br ywnthn wqm
Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David into the woods, and strengthened his hand in God.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܬܕܚܠ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܡܫܟܚܐ ܠܟ ܐܝܕܗ ܕܫܐܘܠ ܐܒܝ ܘܐܢܬ ܬܡܠܟ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܢܐ ܐܗܘܐ ܥܡܟ ܘܬܚܐ ܘܐܦ ܫܐܘܠ ܐܒܝ ܝܕܥ̇ ܕܗܟܢܐ ܗܘ
hw dhkn' yde 'by sh'wl w'p wthkh' emk 'hw' w'n' 'ysryl el thmlk w'nth 'by dsh'wl 'ydh lk mshkkh' dl' mTl thdkhl l' lh w'mr
He said to him, “Don’t be afraid, for the hand of Saul my father won’t find you; and you will be king over Israel, and I will be next to you; and Saul my father knows that also.”

ܘܐܩܝܡܘ ܬܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܩܝܡܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܝܬ̇ܒ ܟܪ̈ܘܒܐ ܒܥܘܡܩܐ ܘܝܘܢܬܢ ܐܙܠ ܠܒܝܬܗ

They both made a covenant before Yahweh. Then David stayed in the woods and Jonathan went to his house.

ܘܣܠܩܘ ܙܝ̈ܦܝܐ ܠܘܬ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܓܒܥ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܗܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܬܛܫܐ ܥܡܢ ܒܡܨܪܘܬ ܒܥܒܐ ܒܓܒܥܘܬ ܒܢܚܠܐ ܕܡܢ ܝܡܝܢܐ ܕܐܫܝܡܘܢ

Then the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself with us in the strongholds in the woods, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the desert?

ܘܗܫܐ ܐܝܟ ܟܠ ܪܓܬܐ ܕܢܦܫܟ ܚܘܬ ܥܠܝܢ ܘܚܢܢ ܢܫܠܡܝܘܗܝ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܡܠܟܐ
dmlk' b'yd' nshlmywhy wkhnn elyn khwth dnpshk rgth' kl 'yk whsh'
Now therefore, O king, come down. According to all the desire of your soul to come down; and our part will be to deliver him up into the king’s hand.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܫܐܘܠ ܒܪ̈ܝܟܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܕܚܣܬܘܢ ܥܠܝ

Saul said, “You are blessed by Yahweh, for you have had compassion on me.

ܙܠܘ ܬܒܘ ܛܒܘ ܝܬܒܗ ܘܕܥܘ ܘܚܙܘ ܕܘܟܬܗ ܕܬܗܘܐ ܪܓܠܗ ܕܡ̇ܢ ܕܚܙܝܗܝ ܬܡܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܡܪܘ ܠܝ ܕܡܥܪܡܘ ܡܥܪܡ

Please go make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there; for I have been told that he is very cunning.

ܘܕܥܘ ܘܚܙܘ ܡܢ ܟܘܠܗܝܢ ܡܛܫܝ̈ܬܐ ܕܡܛܫܝ ܬܡܢ ܘܗܦܘܟܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܠܡܬܩܢܘܬܢܝ ܘܐܙܠ ܥܡܟܘܢ ܕܐܢ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܐܒܨܝܘܗܝ ܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܐ̈ܠܦܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ
dyhwd' 'lp' bklhwn 'btsywhy b're' 'ythwhy d'n emkwn w'zl lmthqnwthny lwthy whpwkw thmn dmTshy mTshyth' kwlhyn mn wkhzw wdew
See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides himself; and come again to me with certainty, and I will go with you. It shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”

ܘܩܡܘ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܠܙܝܦ ܩܕܡ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܡܥܘܢ ܒܥܪܒܐ ܥܠ ܓܢܒ ܐܫܝܡܘܢ
'shymwn gnb el berb' dmewn bmdbr' wgbrwhy wdwyd sh'wl qdm lzyp w'zlw wqmw
They arose, and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of the desert.

ܘܐܙܠ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܠܡܒܥܝܗ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܚܘܝܘ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܢܚܬ ܠܗ ܠܣܠܥ ܘܝܬܒ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܡܥܘܢ ܘܫܡܥ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܪܕܦ ܒܬܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܡܥܘܢ

Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.

ܘܐܙܠ ܫܐܘܠ ܡܢ ܓܒܗ ܕܛܘܪܐ ܘܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܡܢ ܓܒܗ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܣܬܪܗܒ ܠܡܥܪܩ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܫܐܘܠ ܘܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܡܬܟܪܟܝܢ ܥܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܥܠ ܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܠܡܐܚܕ ܐܢܘܢ

Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David hurried to get away for fear of Saul, for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.

ܘܐܝܙܓܕܐ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܒܥܓܠ ܬܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܫܪܘ ܦܠܫܬ̈ܝܐ ܒܟܘܠܗ̇ ܐܪܥܐ

But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on the land!”
